Top500.org List Preview

A sneak peak at the world’s fastest systems.

While the formal list hasn’t been announced yet, the Top500.org site has posted a list of pre-release highlights.

Notable:

  • The DOE’s LLNL IBM BlueGene/L system retains a firm grasp on the No. 1 position.
  • Sandia’s Cray Red Storm leaps from No. 9 to No. 2.
  • Maybe size is everything: The largest system in Europe, an IBM JS21 cluster, makes it as high as No. 5.
  • The combined processing power of all systems on the list vaulted to 3.54 petaflop/s, nearly a full PFlop gain over the 2.79 PFlop/s achieved with the list prior, just six months ago.
  • The number of Infiniband systems more than double! Jumping from 36 to 78.
  • The full list will be released tomorrow at a SC06 Birds-of-a-Feather session.
